Hawaii - February 23, 2008

I float, suspended, peering through my snorkel mask. Then, from my left, a shape appears, a wild dolphin. He moves ahead then circles back as if to say, “follow me”, so I do. He circles a second time to make sure I am following. We swim. Then, a pod of about 20 dolphins circles around me. He has brought me to meet his family. I hear their high pitched song. They are close, especially the leader. I could touch him, but I don’t. Instead I click my cheap underwater camera and send a mental ‘thank you’. I know this is a special gift, my dolphin encounter.
